Our Roots

Stovall Associates is a specialized law firm started in 1978 by James Wm. Stovall with the primary objective of providing quality representation to our clients.  This basic tenet continues today as the cornerstone of our practice.  The firm has been located in Eagle County for over 30 years and has developed a solid transactional and civil litigation practice representing local, national, and international clients.  At Stovall Associates, every client and project is important to us whether it’s a small project or a complex transaction.

All members of our staff are permanent residents of Eagle County and are committed to being involved in the Eagle County community through membership in various organizations, sponsorship of local youth programs and the donation of pro bono legal services every year to local residents in need.

James Wm. Stovall

SENIOR PARTNER

Jim was born and raised in Oregon. Jim attended Willamette University College of Law. After graduation, Jim moved to Colorado and was admitted to practice law in 1978. Jim’s practice includes all matters concerning real estate, including, but not limited to, new development, creation of subdivisions, property conversions, contract formation, banking law, the purchase and sale of property and the representations of Homeowners Associations. Additionally, Jim maintains excellent working relationships with title companies, construction companies, architects and lending institutions located both within and outside of the Vail Valley. On a personal note, Jim is an avid pilot, skier and mountain biker.

Brian Bevan

ATTORNEY

Brian was born and raised in Vail, Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University in New York, and his law degree from California Western School of Law where he ranked third in his class, graduating magna cum laude. During law school, Brian was awarded an academic merit scholarship from his school, and a public interest scholarship from the California Bar Foundation for his work in environmental law.

Brian focuses his practice to civil litigation and transactions including real estate purchase and development, business entity formation and dissolution, Homeowner Associations (CCIOA), contract formation and disputes, general and subcontractor construction agreements, land use matters, environmental law, foreclosures, business transactions concerning asset and stock sale agreements, and estate planning and probate. Before joining Stovall Associates, P.C., Brian worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California, the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., and private firms in Boulder and Denver, Colorado. Brian is licensed to practice in Colorado and in California.

Matthew K. Stovall

Attorney

Matthew is a Vail, Colorado native. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Redlands in California, and his law degree from the Charlotte School of Law (“CSL”) in North Carolina, where he graduated with Pro Bono Honors. During his last year of Law School, Matthew worked with the Immigration Clinic at CSL where he helped individuals draft and submit their I-485 adjustment of status applications. These applications allow an individual with a V1, V2, or V3 status to apply for lawful permanent resident status.

Jennifer Alvey

Legal Assistant and Office Manager

Jennifer began her office management career in 1989 in Tucson, AZ working for a computer graphics company. In 1997 she accepted an office management position with Masco Corporation for a start-up insulation company in Fort Collins, CO.  In 2000 she took a detour to attend Colorado State University to achieve a childhood development certification and opened a licensed preschool and childcare center.  In 2005 she closed her business to join her husband in Eagle, CO to support him in his new job opportunity. Jennifer accepted a teller position at Firstbank in Avon, CO and soon after completed the required Principles in Banking course and other testing to achieve her position as Lead Branch Representative and then cross-trained and worked in various banking departments before she accepted her position of Legal Assistant and Office Manager at Stovall Associates in May 2013. She achieved her Legal Assistant Certification through University of Colorado Denver in December 2013.

When she isn’t working, she enjoys Jeeping in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, landscape photography, hiking (rain, snow or shine), biking, gardening, and crocheting. She also gives of her time to Vail Valley Salvation Army.

Jessica Bechard

Legal Assistant

Jessica came to Colorado from upstate New York in 2002.  From there, she worked as a lead teacher in a classroom consisting of ten 2 year olds at the Family Learning Center until 2005.  The same year she moved on to manage 2 shops in Beaver Creek working for O’Bos Enterprises in the retail industry until 2013.  In early June of 2013, Jessica accepted the opportunity to join Stovall Associates as Legal Assistant and Administrative Assistant.

When outside of the office Jessica enjoys mountain biking, running, snowboarding and snowshoeing. Additionally, she volunteers her time with Sacred Cycle, a nonprofit organization that empowers women through mountain biking.
